Well, a newsletter wasn’t on my 2023 Bingo card, but then it sorta was.
See, I resolved to figure out in 2023 where I should be spending my time - to close some loops in my business. I unintentionally backed into some answers.
I started investigating. I want to know, am I:
talking to the people I actually want to serve or partner with?
saying the things they really need/want to hear?
getting them where they want to be in their business?
I have been holding one-to-one interviews with people who have ADHD and who run or want to run a business. While I started these interviews to collect data for the 2nd edition of my book: The Neurodivergent Entrepreneur, these meetings are helping me get clearer about where to spend my time.
I am learning, by talking one-to-one, I need to create more opportunities to talk to people in quieter spaces (quieter than social media). This is very important for me to accept, as I have built my biggest following on TikTok. It is easy for me to get cozy there. I have benefitted personally from being on TikTok and my business has grown with the power of TikTok. To level up though, I have to accept certain truths. I am learning:
We show up differently than we intend, no matter how authentic we set out to be, when we are under the hot lights of social media.
We hear each other differently on large platforms. Even as we have deep conversations, the presence of so many people means there are competing agendas. The conversation can move in any direction, including away from what we really want to know from each other.
As a coach/consultant who leads with curiosity and consciousness, I have to reduce my time on platforms that run on outrage. I must create spaces where I can set the pace and create the feel for the work. I must create community spaces where people can still hear themselves think, even as they listen to each other.
Social platforms are still in my toolkit. They are part of the system that is my business. My system now includes this channel, this newsletter, which puts me in closer touch with the people who need/want what I have to offer. On this channel, I can better understand how my words are heard; how my touch is felt; how my impact is absorbed.
Oh, by the way, I have been told many times to start a newsletter, and I tried once… because I was told to start a newsletter. This time: I really see how. More importantly, this time I really see why - and not just because someone told me to. This newsletter closes some important communications loops: for me, for my business, for you.
Bingo!!!
It’s so kewl to see you trying to figure out where to spend your time in your biz. It's not always easy to take a step back and reassess things, but it sounds like it's already paying off.
I love that you're talking to peeps one-on-one, especially those with ADHD who run or want to run a biz. Those convos are gonna be so valuable for both you and the people you serve.
It’s smart you're being mindful of your presence on social media and creating quieter spaces for more meaningful talks. It's so true that we act diff when we're under the hot lights of social media, and it's not always the best environment for real convos.
Oh, and I'm so hyped (Go Wimberly)that you started a newsletter! It's clear you've thought about why you're doing it and how it fits into your overall biz strategy. I can't wait to see how it helps you connect with your audience on a deeper level.
Overall, I'm so happy to see you leveling up your biz and being intentional about your approach. Keep crushing it, and I can't wait to see what's next for you!
